Football Recap: Brownwood Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Lampasas

Brownwood posted their closest win since October 25, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 victory over the Lampasas Badgers. The win was all the more spectacular given the Lions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while the Badgers are ranked 91st).

Lampasas lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Bryson Roberts, who threw for 122 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 43 yards. Lampasas also got a significant boost from Wesley Stephens, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

Brownwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.8 points over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Lampasas fell to 6-1.

Coincidentally, Brownwood and Lampasas will both be playing Burnet the next time they take the field. The Badgers will host the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Lions will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
