Softball Recap: Polytechnic Victorious

Polytechnic hadn't done well against Rio Hondo Prep recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Panthers walked away with a 6-2 win over the Kares. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 victory the Kares walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Amelia Shih spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Eila Chan was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Carthan Connolly was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Polytechnic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Rio Hondo Prep, the loss was their first on the road, dropping their record down to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Polytechnic is set to square off against their familiar foe Flintridge Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep will face off against rival Westridge at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
