Basketball Game Preview: Dixie Greyhounds vs. Arcanum Trojans

Dixie hasn't had much luck against Arcanum recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Dixie Greyhounds will take on the Arcanum Trojans at 1:00 p.m.

Dixie is headed into Saturday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of National Trail. The contest was a 16-16 toss-up at halftime, but the Greyhounds couldn't quite close it out.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Arcanum, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against Twin Valley South by a score of 53-44 on Thursday.

Dixie better focus on containing Lexy Gibbons and Caroline Long as the pair were huge in Arcanum's win. Gibbons posted 24 points and eight rebounds, while Long dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Long continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Arcanum smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Arcanum pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Dixie, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Dixie lost to Arcanum on the road by a decisive 44-30 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Dixie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
