Softball Game Preview: Santa Paula Cardinals vs. Fillmore Flashes

The Santa Paula Cardinals will head out to face off against the Fillmore Flashes at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Paula has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Last Thursday, Santa Paula came up short against Rio Mesa and fell 12-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost five in a row.

Angie ?Frankie? Aguilera and Anaya Davis stepped up to the plate in a big way. Aguilera scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Davis scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Aguilera a new career-high in stolen bases. Jaelyn Tobias also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Fillmore's offense. They lost 11-0 to San Marcos on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Flashes' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Santa Paula's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Fillmore, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Santa Paula suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Fillmore in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Santa Paula avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
