Baseball Recap: Walter Johnson Extends Winning Streak to Four

Walter Johnson has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.38 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Northwest Jaguars 12-10. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Spencer Gilcrest tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ethan Pletter and Ethan Hsu did most of the damage at the plate: Pletter got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Hsu got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Pletter has posted since back in March. Nolan Ross was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Walter Johnson's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Northwest, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Walter Johnson has already played their next matchup (against Gaithersburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Northwest, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-7 defeat against Magruder on the 29th.
