Football Recap: Monsignor Farrell Piles Up the Points Against Chaminade

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Monsignor Farrell walked away with it. They breezed past the Chaminade Flyers to the tune of 34-3 on Friday. Considering the Lions have won seven matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Monsignor Farrell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kevin Gumb Jr out in front who rushed for 193 yards and one score while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Those 193 rushing yards gave Gumb Jr a new career-high. Bryce Moye was another key passer, throwing for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Monsignor Farrell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 229 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Monsignor Farrell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of David Leverock and Michael Libretta. Monsignor Farrell received some extra help from Gumb Jr, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Monsignor Farrell's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.3 points on average over those games. As for Chaminade, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5.

Coming up, Monsignor Farrell will square off against Iona Prep at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chaminade does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
