Basketball Recap: Marion Takes a Loss

Marion saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a 60-44 bruising from the Connersville Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Giants can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Spartans are ranked 79th).

Connersville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jacey Willhelm, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Willhelm a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendyl Bottomley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Marion has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Connersville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-45 loss against Purdue Polytechnic on the 28th. As for Connersville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-52 defeat against Richmond on the 28th.
