Baseball Game Preview: Skowhegan River Hawks vs. Messalonskee Eagles

Skowhegan and Messalonskee are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The River Hawks will take on the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Skowhegan gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Camden Hills. The River Hawks haven't had any issues with the Windjammers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Skowhegan got a great performance from Grant Cram as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Trevor Austin and Nathan Wills did most of the damage at the plate: Austin went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Wills got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two runs gave Austin a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Messalonskee sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over Edward Little on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Red Eddies since May 3, 2021.

Dennis Martin was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sean Achorn, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple.
