Softball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends New Prairie's Winning Streak

New Prairie dropped their record down to 17-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Penn Kingsmen. The match marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Ava Geyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

As for Penn, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with New Prairie: they've now won four in a row.

On Penn's side, New Prairie's batters probably weren't too happy with Caitlyn Denny, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (she gave up a single walk).

At the plate, Izabella Hanna was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ava Zachary was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

While New Prairie had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
