Softball Recap: Scotland/Menno Gets the Win

While Scotland/Menno's win against McCook Central/Montrose wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trappers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Fighting Cougars on Monday. The Trappers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Fighting Cougars, too.

Kylie Guthmiller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trinity Bietz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kimmy Kubal was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Scotland/Menno now has a winning record of 5-4. As for McCook Central/Montrose, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-7.

Coincidentally, Scotland/Menno and McCook Central/Montrose will both be playing Hanson the next time they take the field. The Fighting Cougars will host the Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Trappers will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
