Baseball Game Preview: Cheektowaga Chargers vs. Maryvale Flyers

Cheektowaga hasn't had much luck against Maryvale recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Chargers will face off against the Flyers at 5:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Cheektowaga is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Pioneer, falling 9-1.

Cheektowaga saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Casey Horbach, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that Horbach has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Maryvale fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Medina on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2. The Flyers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jacob Kuciel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Daly, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Maryvale's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Cheektowaga, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cheektowaga has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Maryvale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Cheektowaga couldn't quite get it done against Maryvale in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-5. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
