Baseball Recap: Santa Fe's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Santa Fe's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Whittier Cardinals, sneaking past 7-5. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Chiefs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

James Rubio tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ethan Lopez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Nicolas Alvarez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Santa Fe's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Whittier, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Santa Fe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 5-2 victory against Charter Oak on the 25th. As for Whittier, they have also already played their next game, a 10-6 defeat against Katella on the 24th.
