Baseball Game Preview: Clairton Bears vs. Bishop Canevin Crusaders

For the second straight game, Clairton will face off against Bishop Canevin. The Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clairton comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Clairton's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to Bishop Canevin, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

For Bishop Canevin's part, Brady Wagner and Layne Gerba made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Wagner pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gerba didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. At bat, Wagner went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Gerba went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Wagner has become a key player for Bishop Canevin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate Astor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory made it two in a row for Bishop Canevin and bumps their season record up to 7-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Clairton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
