The East Chapel Hill Wildcats will take on the Chapel Hill Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. East Chapel Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
While East Chapel Hill's win against Riverside-Durham wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Pirates on Tuesday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
McKenna White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tesla Goldstein, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Anna Grabowski was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Chapel Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Chapel Hill can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Hillside.
Alexandra (Kes) Duncan made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Chapel Hill got a massive performance out of Abby Klemm, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Klemm has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jillian Evans, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
East Chapel Hill's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Chapel Hill, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
Chapel Hill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: East Chapel Hill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. It's a different story for Chapel Hill, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain East Chapel Hill's hitters?
East Chapel Hill took their victory against Chapel Hill in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
