Softball Game Preview: The Academy of the Holy Cross Tartans vs. Bishop McNamara Mustangs

The Academy of the Holy Cross is 1-9 against Bishop McNamara since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Tartans will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, The Academy of the Holy Cross turned things around against Madeira on Monday. They blew past the Snails 15-9. The Tartans' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Meanwhile, Bishop McNamara had just enough and edged out Bishop Ireton 2-1 on Tuesday.

Koryn Otey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Bishop McNamara saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaslyne Ivey, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Ivey is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

The win got Bishop McNamara back to even at 8-8. As for The Academy of the Holy Cross, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8.

The Academy of the Holy Cross was able to grind out a solid win over Bishop McNamara in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 16-11. Will the Tartans repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
