Bobby Metzger leads a balanced attack to beat McCutcheon

Recap: Lafayette Central Catholic Knights vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged McCutcheon out 44-42. Given Lafayette Central Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while McCutcheon is ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lafayette Central Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bobby Metzger led the charge by scoring 16 points. That's the first time this season that Metzger scored 15 or more points. Mikey Stapleton was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Brody Raeke and Owen Souligne certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Raeke scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Souligne scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Baker, who scored nine points.

Lafayette Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for McCutcheon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Lafayette Central Catholic will head out on the road to take on Rensselaer Central at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Rensselaer Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Wednesday. As for McCutcheon, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Richmond at 7:00 p.m. Richmond is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
