Baseball Recap: Santiago Takes a Loss

Santiago had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it five. They lost 9-2 to the Saddleback Roadrunners. The Cavaliers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Roadrunners earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Isaiah Cortez was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI. He has become a key player for Santiago: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chris Arceo, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Saddleback, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 9-2).

On Saddleback's side, Diego Enriquez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off 13 hits. Enriquez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jerry Arevalo-Reyes, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Anthony Lopez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santiago will square off against Bolsa Grande at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Matadors have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Saddleback, they will challenge Santa Ana Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Roadrunners are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
