Baseball Recap: Mendez Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Mendez, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Contreras Cobras on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Jaguars: when they faced off against the Cobras last Wednesday, they had to take a 9-6 loss.

Alberto Perez tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Fernando Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Damian Martinez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Mendez's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Contreras, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Mendez will take on Sotomayor at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. After both having extra time off, Contreras and Robert F. Kennedy Community will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:45 p.m. on the 23rd. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Cobras surely won't give up without a fight.
