Basketball Recap: Maeser Prep Academy Takes a Loss

Maeser Prep Academy suffered their biggest defeat since February 13th on Wednesday. They were outmatched by the South Summit Wildcats and fell 74-44. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-24.

When it comes to explaining why Maeser Prep Academy lost, don't look at Autumn Dossey. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Maeser Prep Academy is 2-1 when Dossey posts eight or more boards, but 2-5 otherwise. Lillian Nolan was another key player, going 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points.

Emma Broadbent was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 16 rebounds for South Summit. The game was Broadbent's 21st in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Bowen, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 17 points and three steals.

Maeser Prep Academy's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-6. As for South Summit, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.

Maeser Prep Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Logan at 2:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. South Summit will take on Highland in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Summit is facing Highland at the right time seeing as Highland is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
