Softball Recap: Hempfield Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Hempfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Manheim Township Blue Streaks, sneaking past 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Alexa Martin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Hempfield saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Ernst, who went 1-for-4 with three runs. That's the most runs Ernst has posted since back in May of 2025. Another was Lily Ashton, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Hempfield's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-6. As for Manheim Township, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Hempfield will face off against rival Cedar Crest at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Manheim Township is set to square off against their familiar foe Warwick at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
