Softball Recap: Wirt County Tigers vs. Webster County Highlanders
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wahama, Wirt County was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Webster County Highlanders. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 17-8 victory the Highlanders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.
Adi Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylee Ross, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Kinsley Nicolais also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wirt County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Wirt County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 8-1 victory against Williamstown on the 29th. As for Webster County, they have also already played their next game, a 24-13 defeat against Wahama on the 29th.
