Baseball Recap: Red Lion Triumphs

After losing to Central York the last time they met, Red Lion decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lions narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Panthers 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since March 29th.

Connor Lawrence was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Red Lion is 5-0-1 when Lawrence posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

Lawrence wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Regan Koons, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Red Lion pushed their record up to 9-6-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central York, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.

The future could be bright for both Red Lion and Central York: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Lions will look to extend South Western's eight-game losing streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Central York will try to hand Spring Grove their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
