Baseball Game Preview: St. Monica Mariners vs. North Saxons

The St. Monica Mariners will head out to square off against the North Saxons at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Wednesday, St. Monica came up short against Los Angeles CES and fell 7-4.

Nico Vallejo was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Gabe Villegas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past St. Bernard 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saxons have posted since March 1st.

Nolan Shiroma looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eric Yamashiro was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Lucas Blackwood was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

North's record now sits at 6-9-1. As for St. Monica, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
