Softball Game Preview: Santa Clara Bruins vs. MacDonald Condor

The Santa Clara Bruins will challenge the MacDonald Condor at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Santa Clara beat Presentation 11-6.

Santa Clara got a big performance out of Jasmine (Jazzy) Ramirez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base was Ramirez's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Averie Lopez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for MacDonald, who bounced back after a loss on the road on March 3rd. Everything went their way against Mt. Pleasant on March 10th as MacDonald made off with a 17-7 win. Considering the Condor's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ileyah Sanchez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sanchez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ailyn Oliveros was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Aariyah Quinonez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Santa Clara's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for MacDonald, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
