Recap: Southeast Pirates vs. Aquinas Knights
The Southeast Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Aquinas. Southeast has struggled against Aquinas recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Southeast still got an impressive performance from Garrett Sprutte, who scored 31 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 60.8% of Southeast's points, marking the 12th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Southeast struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Aquinas racked up 11 assists.
It was another big night for Bronson Gilyard, who scored 26 points along with two steals for Aquinas. Gilyard hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Thomas, who scored nine points.
Southeast bumped their record down to 6-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Aquinas, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southeast will take on Grand Valley at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Valley is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Aquinas, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Cardinal Mooney presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Aquinas in Ohio (Cardinal Mooney is ranked 106th, while Aquinas is ranked 439th).
