Basketball Recap: Shelbyville Victorious

Shelbyville lost to Yorktown back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Shelbyville Golden Bears skirted past the Yorktown Tigers 48-46. The 48-point effort marked the Golden Bears' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Despite the loss, Yorktown still got an impressive performance from Austin Kates, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those seven boards gave Kates a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabin Barnes, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds.

Shelbyville's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Yorktown, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Shelbyville will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Franklin Community at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Yorktown and Columbus East will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Yorktown is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
