Softball Recap: Central Comes Up Short

Central had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it six. They lost 8-2 to the Imperial Tigers. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylani Torres, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Imperial, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

On Imperial's side, Cienna Alvarez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Alvarez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Clark, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Hailey Lepe was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

While Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
