Wheeler is 1-9 against Stonington since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Lions will challenge the Bears at 11:00 a.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Wheeler took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Windham an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won three contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

04/17/25 vs Plainfield | 3 |

Garett Lenihan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Dowry, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jeremy Ventilino also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Wheeler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Windham only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Stonington came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Redmen. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by exactly eight runs.
Jace Wolfradt was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nick Cannella, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Stonington pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Wheeler, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wheeler hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Stonington struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wheeler skirted past Stonington 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
