If Benton wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Byrd, they should've done a better job of containing Christian Maxie. The Yellow Jackets came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 49-40 on Friday with plenty of help from Maxie, who rushed for 343 yards and six scores while picking up 11.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 39 yards and one touchdown. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 17 rushing touchdowns on the season.

Malachi Zeigler and Case Austin certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Zeigler threw for 486 yards and five TDs while completing 71.1% of his passes, while Austin picked up 152 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Austin's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Patterson, who picked up 85 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Byrd's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Benton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Byrd is taking a road trip to challenge Airline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Benton, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Parkway at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
