Basketball Preview: Kennedy Knights vs. Clifton Mustangs
Kennedy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Clifton Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Kennedy is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mustangs in New Jersey (the Knights are ranked 127th, while the Mustangs are ranked 384th).
On Saturday, Kennedy earned a 51-41 victory over the Lancers.
Kennedy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but My'Shayla Clancy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zahniya Castillo, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Clifton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They took a 35-20 bruising from Bergen Tech.
Kennedy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Clifton, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-17.
Everything came up roses for Kennedy against the Mustangs when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 40-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kennedy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
