Softball Recap: Minerva Comes Up Short

Minerva was the 5-4 winner over Beaver Local when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Minerva took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beaver Local on Thursday. The Lions' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row dating back to last season.

Sierra Cress was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off nine hits. Cress was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Dakota Breton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie French, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Minerva's record now sits at 0-3. As for Beaver Local, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Looking ahead, Minerva will welcome Fairless at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Minerva is facing Fairless at the right time seeing as Fairless is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Beaver Local, they will square off against Crestview at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
