Softball Recap: Manvel Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sam Rayburn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Manvel). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sam Rayburn Texans a 19-0 shutout on Friday. The Mavericks have beaten the Texans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Texans has come to flipping the script.

Mariah Lantz looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Manvel got a massive performance out of Karsyn Carrier, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Carrier a new career-high. Kaylah Hopkins was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Manvel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .533 that Sam Rayburn posted.

Manvel's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Sam Rayburn, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-18.
