Softball Recap: San Diego Comes Up Short

After flying high against El Cajon Valley on Friday, San Diego came back down to earth. The Cavers fell 8-3 to the Coronado Islanders on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cavers in their meetings with the Islanders: they've now lost seven in a row.

Diana Martinez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Alvarez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

San Diego's loss dropped their record down to 9-8-1. As for Coronado, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6-1 record this season.

San Diego will venture away from home to challenge San Ysidro at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Coronado, they will take on Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
