Softball Recap: Madison Eagles vs. Fitzgerald Spartans
Madison extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 3-6. They came up short against the Fitzgerald Spartans, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 last Monday.
As for Fitzgerald, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
For Fitzgerald's part, Lydia Yokel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yokel was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Briana Parsons and Taylor McCants did most of the damage at the plate: Parsons went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one run, while McCants went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Parsons is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ayana Smith, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Madison will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Southfield Christian at 10:00 a.m. on the 30th. As for Fitzgerald, they will face off against New Haven at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
