After a string of six wins, Scotch Plains-Fanwood's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Union Catholic Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Raiders of the 8-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Joe LaRosa was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jack Sponheimer, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Union Catholic, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scotch Plains-Fanwood will venture away from home to challenge Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Union Catholic, they will head out to take on Oratory Prep at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
