The Homestead Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Los Altos Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Homestead will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Homestead came out on top against Fremont on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Firebirds.
The result came thanks to Mackenzie Smith's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Elisa Coyle was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Cierra Hagan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Los Altos came out on top against Mountain View on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Eagles beat the Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Spartans on their field since May 4, 2022.
Kaylyn Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on ten hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sabrina Neal, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Isabella Cirimele, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Homestead's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Los Altos, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Homestead hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Los Altos struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Homestead beat Los Altos 8-3 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
