Baseball Recap: Cathedral Catholic Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Cathedral Catholic had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Del Norte Nighthawks by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The Dons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Nighthawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Owen Smyth was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, Chris LeTourneau was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Coming up, Cathedral Catholic will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Rancho Buena Vista at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Del Norte, they will venture away from home to take on Eastlake at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
