Basketball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Lithia Springs Lions

Alexander and Lithia Springs are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Alexander Cougars duke it out with the Lithia Springs Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexander knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Lithia Springs likes a good challenge.

If Alexander beats Lithia Springs with 82 points on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Alexander breezed by Kennesaw Mountain to the tune of 82-53 on Friday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Mustangs are ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alexander's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gregory Dunson, who went 8 for 18 en route to 22 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The contest was Dunson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquise Leslie, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Lithia Springs strolled past East Paulding with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 80-62. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Alexander has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. As for Lithia Springs, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
