Baseball Recap: Monroe-Woodbury Starts off Right with Win over Washingtonville

Monroe-Woodbury took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They blew past the Washingtonville Wizards 13-1. That's more bragging rights for the Crusaders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lucas Beers looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Monroe-Woodbury let Liam Hayes and Max Post run wild. Hayes went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Post scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave Post a new career-high. Evan Erickson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Monroe-Woodbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washingtonville only posted an OBP of .286.

Looking ahead, Monroe-Woodbury will challenge Middletown at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Washingtonville, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
