Football Recap: Connor Benton and Bentley Mills Secure Win for Wheatmore

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wheatmore had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the West Wilkes Blackhawks by a score of 21-14. The Warriors didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

A big part of Wheatmore's win came down to the chemistry between Connor Benton and his top target Bentley Mills. Benton threw for 231 yards and one touchdown while completing 78.9% of his passes while Mills picked up 137 receiving yards and one score. Mills is becoming a predictor of Wheatmore's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't).

Wheatmore's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for West Wilkes, they moved to 7-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Wheatmore is taking a road trip to face off against Walkertown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Wilkes does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
