Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Mesa Verde

Mesa Verde came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Western Sierra Collegiate Academy Wolves by a score of 6-1. While the Mavericks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Isaiah Shoemake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Mesa Verde's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Steven Pinola, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Pinola has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Mesa Verde's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mesa Verde beat Western Sierra Collegiate Academy by a score of 11-3 on Thursday.
