Softball Game Preview: Century Centurions vs. Waltonville Spartans

The Century Centurions will venture away from home to square off against the Waltonville Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Century is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

Century is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Egyptian with a sharp 10-0 victory. Ten seems to be a good number for the Centurions as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jaylee Vanmeter made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Vanmeter was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Kali Crain was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Hayden Anderson was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Century always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Egyptian only posted an OBP of .059.

Meanwhile, Waltonville entered their tilt with Trico on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Pioneers.

Century has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Waltonville, their record now sits at 26-8.
