Baseball Recap: Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Makes It 12 in a Row on the Road

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy). They were the clear victors by a 25-1 margin over the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes on Tuesday. The Ospreys haven't had any issues with the Tornadoes recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Ryan Canipe and Peyton Conley made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Canipe pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Conley pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Canipe scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Conley went 2-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Conley has become a key player for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brodie Edwards was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Crowl, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .702. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timberlake Christian only posted an OBP of .375.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Timberlake Christian, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy will head out to challenge Franklin County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Timberlake Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Regents at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
