For the first time this season, Glendale will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Washington Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Glendale, who comes in off a win.
Glendale made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Tempe, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Glendale was the clear victor by a 25-2 margin over Tempe on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.
Jose Miranda and Michael Palomino made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Miranda pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Palomino tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. At bat, Miranda scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Palomino scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ezekiel Trujillo was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Matthew Najera, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5.
Meanwhile, Washington came up short against Moon Valley last Friday and fell 4-1. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Washington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ta'Lon Heron, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double was Heron's first of the season.
Washington's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Glendale, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Glendale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Glendale took their win against Washington when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0. Does Glendale have another victory up their sleeve, or will Washington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
