Basketball Game Preview: Lone Peak Knights vs. American Fork Cavemen

The Lone Peak Knights will face off against the American Fork Cavemen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lone Peak's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Lone Peak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Skyridge, who was ranked 24th at the time (Lone Peak was ranked 11th). In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Lone Peak made off with a 60-59 victory over Skyridge.

Meanwhile, American Fork suffered their closest defeat since December 7, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Pleasant Grove by a score of 64-61.

Lone Peak will have to contain Bryce Mella as he made an impact in American Fork's last game. He went 11 of 20 on his way to 25 points along with five boards and four steals. Mella's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ashton Hucks was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, American Fork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasant Grove only pulled down three offensive boards.

American Fork has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.1 points per game. As for Lone Peak, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Lone Peak came up short against American Fork in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 75-67. Can Lone Peak avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
