Basketball Recap: Melbourne Beats Westwood for Their Fourth Straight Win

Melbourne entered their tilt with Westwood on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They strolled past the Westwood Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 43-25. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 40-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Melbourne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brianna Matthews out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Matthews is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Paz, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Westwood still got an impressive performance from Jihla Greer, who had 12 points.

Melbourne has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.6 points per game. As for Westwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

Melbourne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-27 victory against Calvary Chapel Academy on the 21st. Westwood has also already played their next game, a 47-8 win against Tradition Prep on the 22nd.
