Football Game Preview: Dowagiac Chieftains vs. Buchanan Bucks

The Dowagiac Chieftains are taking a road trip to face off against the Buchanan Bucks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Dowagiac nor Buchanan posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Dowagiac's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Berrien Springs on Friday. They came up short against the Shamrocks, falling 21-0. The Chieftains' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 35-8, which was the final score in Buchanan's tilt against Millington on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bucks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Cardinals are ranked 108th).

Buchanan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brody Reed.

Buchanan's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Dowagiac, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.

Dowagiac ended up a good deal behind Buchanan when the teams last played back in October of 2024, losing 35-18. Can the Chieftains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
