The Cathedral Prep Ramblers are taking a road trip to challenge the Harbor Creek Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cathedral Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Cathedral Prep's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Meadville on Saturday. The Ramblers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cathedral Prep got a good showing from Joey Makela, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Makela has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cathedral Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Boam, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Harbor Creek came out on top against Warren on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Huskies narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Dragons 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Huskies have posted against the Dragons since May 15, 2021.
CONNOR FORTIN was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has become a key player for Harbor Creek: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3-1 otherwise. FORTIN was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on LUCAS HANSON, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. LUKE RUPRECHT was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
Harbor Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warren only posted a batting average of .200.
The loss was their first at home, dropping their record down to 9-4. As for Harbor Creek, their record is now 6-4-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Cathedral Prep hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Harbor Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Cathedral Prep's way against Harbor Creek in their previous meeting last Friday, as Cathedral Prep made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ramblers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
