Preview: McDonald County Mustangs vs. Jefferson City Jays
The McDonald County Mustangs will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Jefferson City Jays. One thing working in McDonald County's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but McDonald County had no problem doing just that on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 40-21 victory over Bolivar.
Meanwhile, Jefferson City came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Pleasant Hill 37-34. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Zach Barnes had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry.
Another reason for the win was Jefferson City's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Kane Fuelling was especially locked on to Pleasant Hill's QB and sacked him three times.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 8-4.
