Basketball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Cathedral Catholic Dons

St. Augustine is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Cathedral Catholic is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Saints will host the Dons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Augustine has given up an average of 58.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

St. Augustine not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since December 12, 2025 (when they won 80-39). They blew past Maranatha Christian 80-56. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Saints' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Eagles are ranked 454th).

Meanwhile, Cathedral Catholic posted their closest win since December 11, 2025 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-45 victory over Mira Mesa.

Cathedral Catholic's win came from a few key players that St. Augustine will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Charlie Barajas, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games he's played. Kai Carlson was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Cathedral Catholic's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for St. Augustine, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

St. Augustine didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Cathedral Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, but they still walked away with a 69-64 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Dons' PJ Jourdain, who went 12-for-16 on his way to 33 points and three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Saints to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
